Startup Saturday is an event that happens on the second Saturday of every month – it allows entrepreneurs to network and share thoughts with like minded people. On 13th of August 2011, the theme for the Startup Saturday at Pune was “The Big Healthcare Opportunity in India” and Practo’s CEO Shashank ND was on the panel of speakers there.
The afternoon event started off with a broad overview given by Dr. Ranjan Venkatesan, a doctor and a healthcare administrator about avenues in healthcare where businesses have scope for doing well.
This was followed by a very interesting talk by Sandeep Agate about his company Krixi Care, which offers telemedicine solutions which enable doctors to treat patients from remote locations using any Internet enabled device, and particularly for patients of stroke.
Shashank spread the message of Practo. He spoke about how the healthcare sector – particularly the small to medium sized clinics, run by private practitioners have an absolute dearth of good and simple to use software tools using which they can manage their practices efficiently and make more time for themselves and their patients. He also stressed on how most services from booking an airline ticket to ordering pizza are available on the Internet, but there is very little that a patient can do online and spoke of the need for a system where patient can access their medical data online – anytime and anywhere. The success of Practo’s efforts in bringing doctors online were well appreciated.
Jaideep Sippy made a presentation about his company Missisippy which promotes the concept of eating healthy and makes fibre rich foods for the corporate segment.
Sandeep Saxena of Acton Biotech was a wonderful host and spoke about how the large potential in the healthcare sector could be realized and life can be made easy for all stakeholders of the ecosystem by employing of a systematic approach. The event was a lovely networking opportunity.
