In our latest Practo Connect Webinar, we invited Dr. Rashmi Naldeega, a consultant dermatologist, (MBBS, DDVL) to enlighten us on Aesthetic Dermatology: The Science of Beauty. She began the webinar by throwing light on why aesthetic/cosmetic dermatology has grown to become so significant today. With its rapid growth and increased adaptation, she discusses its psychological and aesthetic impact on people during the various treatments. She highlights factors like aging, photoaging, and lifestyle influences on skin health, stressing the importance of sun protection, a healthy diet, and preventive care.
She discussed a detailed overview of techniques and considerations for aesthetic and therapeutic procedures such as Botox, thread lifts, and dermal fillers. It involved the use of insulin syringes for precise administration, dosage adjustments based on muscle mass, and the treatment of dynamic wrinkles like forehead lines, glabellar lines, and crow’s feet. Non-aesthetic uses, such as managing hyperhidrosis, are also highlighted. She explains the importance of accurate injection techniques, dosage calibration, and avoiding complications like eyebrow ptosis or lip drooping. In her segment on thread lifts, she emphasizes their minimally invasive nature, collagen-stimulating benefits, and precautions before and after the procedure. Finally, concluding the session on dermal fillers details types, classifications, application techniques (linear threading, serial puncture, cross-hatching, and fanning), contraindications, and uses for enhancing facial features.
As she deep dived into various methods and treatment carried out on patients, she talked about how each procedure is outlined with its benefits, risks, and patient-specific considerations. She also mentioned how social media influencers impact people’s choices by talking about off-the-shelf products and its association with beauty. When it comes to one’s face, which is also one’s identity, we shouldn’t give expert advice or listen to people who pose as skincare specialists. When going for a skincare consultation or treatment, one must only consult a doctor or any expert with a recognised degree.
