Dr M S Muthu has written the textbook “Pediatric Dentistry – Principles and Practice” along with Dr Sivakumar. This book is their attempt to share what they have learnt over many years as students, teachers and practitioners to their colleagues, faculties, students and patients.
A sincere effort has been taken to integrate the syllabus recommended by Dental Council of India and various universities across the country into this book.
Few chapters like Early Childhood Caries and Infant Oral Care Measures, Child Psychology, Teeth identification, Traumatic Injuries, Sports Dentistry, Drugs Used In Pediatric Dentistry are unique either in terms of content or the mode of presentation and have been primarily written with the objective of helping the student read Pediatric Dentistry with more ease and interest.
The project of writing a Multiple Choice Questions book was primarily taken up by Dr Muthu with the aim of helping the undergraduate and postgraduate students of Dentistry to strengthen their basics in Pediatric Dentistry.
Each chapter also includes questions which the student usually comes across in licensing examinations abroad (like National Board Dental Examinations in USA and Canada). This book will definitely be of great help in efficiently tackling objective competitive examinations both at the national & international levels as its key strength is stressing upon the fundamental concepts in an objective manner.

Dr M S Muthu is presently the Professor & Head, Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Saveetha Dental College & Hospital, Chennai.
To name a few of his credits are – Director, Pedo Planet – India’s first network of Pediatric Dental Centres, based in Chennai, Invited speaker in many national and international forums for various dental associations and societies, 36 publications in indexed national and international journals in the field of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr Muthu holds a patent for a Pediatric Rotary File along with his student and colleague. He has devised a technique named ‘TeDiE” technique, for easy and efficient administration of local anesthetic injections to children.
He is also the author of the world’s first classification for Dens Evaginatus (2011) and has the credit of modifying the classification of Talons Cusp in the year 2005.
